How does God Speak to Us?

Hi E____,

God primarily speaks to us through his spirit, which works through our conscience and we are then convicted.

(Joh 16:7 NKJV) Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
(Joh 16:8 NKJV) And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

There are many thoughts and feelings that take place within us every day, so the only way to confirm that they are of God is to try those spirits through the Word of God.

(1Jn 4:1 NKJV) Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Just because you feel “convicted” or “sorrowful” does not mean that it’s the Spirit speaking to you. We have to try the spirits to see if they are of God.

(2Co 7:9 NKJV) Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.
(2Co 7:10 NKJV) For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
(2Co 7:11 NKJV) For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

I just exchanged some e-mails with a brother and he was experiencing worldly sorrow but mistook it for Godly sorrow. He was feeling guilty about doing something that was good. I showed him the scriptures and he was able to see clearly that this was false guilt.

The Lord can certainly speak through visions, revelations, and dreams.

(2Co 12:1 NKJV) It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord:

(Job 33:15 NKJV) In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, While slumbering on their beds,
(Job 33:16 NKJV) Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction.

Again, the key is to try them against the word. Many people in the Babylonian churches of this world will say that they have heard from God but not compare that to the scriptures. They speak above what is written, which only leads to false prophecies and strife.

(1Co 4:6 NKJV) Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.

I hope this helps you,
Mitch

Hi Mitch, thank you, and thank you E for asking this question,

I would like you to help me with further understanding to:

Act_2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
I know a few women, that speak of having dreams, would:

Gal_3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Make this the sum of Gods word?
    Again, Thank you, Wendy

You’re right on Wendy. We all live by every word, so in due time we will prophesy, dream dreams, and see visions spiritually speaking.
