How to Deal with Satan and Demons

Hi S____,

The devil and his angels are just as real as God and his holy angels.

(Mat 25:40 NKJV) And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
(Mat 25:41 NKJV) “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Christ certainly did cast out many demons during his ministry on this earth.

(Mat 12:24 NKJV) Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”
(Mat 12:25 NKJV) But Jesus knew their thoughts, and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.
(Mat 12:26 NKJV) If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?
(Mat 12:27 NKJV) And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges.
(Mat 12:28 NKJV) But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

The Lord sends evil spirits to do his bidding.

(1Sa 16:14 KJV) But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

The Lord also can cause visions of all kinds to serve his purposes. For example: the vision with Elijah and Moses.

Mat 17:9 Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead.”

You hear all these stories about people supposedly dying and going to heaven or hell and then coming back from the dead to tell us about it. The scriptures clearly teach that death is like sleep and that the dead do not know anything.

(Ecc 9:5 NKJV) For the living know that they will die; But the dead know nothing, And they have no more reward, For the memory of them is forgotten.

I’m sure that some of these people are quite sincere and really believe that they had this experience, when it was in fact a vision or dream.
Paul speaks of visions and revelations as well.

(2Co 12:1 NKJV) It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord:
(2Co 12:2 NKJV) I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows—such a one was caught up to the third heaven.
(2Co 12:3 NKJV) And I know such a man—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows—
(2Co 12:4 NKJV) how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
(2Co 12:5 NKJV) Of such a one I will boast; yet of myself I will not boast, except in my infirmities.

The book of Revelation is just that, a revelation to John.

(Rev 1:1 NKJV) The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John,

(Rev 1:2 NKJV) who bore witness to the word of God, and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, to all things that he saw.

This Revelation is just as real as the vision of Peter, James, and John in Matthew 17, but neither were real physical events.

So your friend has probably had a mixture of real experiences, visions, revelations, and dreams. Keep in mind that God also will answer us according to the idols of our heart to keep us under strong delusion until our appointed time to overcome.

(Eze 14:4 NKJV) “Therefore speak to them, and say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Everyone of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts before him what causes him to stumble into iniquity, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him who comes, according to the multitude of his idols,

Your friend is so busy praying against Satan that he is blinded from the true battle within.

(Eph 6:10 NKJV) Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
(Eph 6:11 NKJV) Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
(Eph 6:12 NKJV) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

This study will explain spiritual warfare further:

Where are the heavenly places?

His throne is in his temple, and we are the temple of God.

(Rev 7:15 NKJV) Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them.

(1Co 3:16 NKJV) Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

The kingdom of God and the Kingdom of heaven are referring to the same place within us where God dwells.

(Luk 17:20 NKJV) Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation;
(Luk 17:21 NKJV) nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

When we are busy spending our days praying against Satan “out there”, we do not notice when he has been sent within our own mind to tempt us.

(Jas 1:13 NKJV) Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
(Jas 1:14 NKJV) But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
(Jas 1:15 NKJV) Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

Satan disguises himself as our own thoughts. He drops little temptations into our mind which bring out our lust and lead us to sin.

(1Pe 5:8 NKJV) Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

If you really want to “resist the devil” then take every thought captive to Christ, which is the Word of God.

(2Co 10:4 NKJV) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
(2Co 10:5 NKJV) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

Here is that article you were looking for.

All you can do is share little bits of the truth and see if he has ears to hear. It may be too much to go after the Satan issue right away, so maybe start with God’s sovereignty or salvation of all. If he’s teachable, then keep sharing, if he does not have ears to hear, then just wait to see if God will open a door down the road.

The narrow way lies between these two verses.

(Mat 7:6 NKJV) “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

(2Ti 4:1 ESV) I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
(2Ti 4:2 ESV) preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

I pray the Lord gives you the wisdom to know when to speak and when to be quiet.

I hope this answers your questions,

Thanks Mitch for sharing. Great advice on starting with small things and the milk to ensure they have a heart prepared of the Lord and ears to hear.

Psa 10:17 LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:
