Hi K____,

Thank you for writing. This must be a very a very scary situation for your granddaughter.

Let my start of by saying that it is not a ghost. This article covers that topic in detail:

This is an evil spirit from the Lord that has been sent to trouble your granddaughter. Through her distress, you are being given an opportunity to share the truth of God’s sovereignty with her. This will work for her good and your good in due time.

(Rom 8:28 NKJV) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

(1Sa 16:14 NKJV) But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a distressing (evil) spirit from the LORD troubled him.
(1Sa 16:15 NKJV) And Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely, a distressing spirit from God is troubling you.

God is the father of all spirits, both good and evil.

(Heb 12:9 KJV) Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

(Isa 45:7 KJV) I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

(Amo 3:6 KJV) Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?

Explain to your granddaughter that God is in control of all things, even this evil spirit that is troubling her. When she is given the faith that God is in control, she will not fear this evil.

(Eph 1:11 KJV) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

(Psa 23:4 KJV) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

You can read her these verses in Mark and show her that Christ has power over these unclean spirits.

(Mar 1:23 KJV) And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
(Mar 1:24 KJV) Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
(Mar 1:25 KJV) And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
(Mar 1:26 KJV) And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
(Mar 1:27 KJV) And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.

These verses in Matthew show that dealing with evil spirits is all about faith.

(Mat 17:14 KJV) And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,
(Mat 17:15 KJV) Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
(Mat 17:16 KJV) And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
(Mat 17:17 KJV) Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.
(Mat 17:18 KJV) And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
(Mat 17:19 KJV) Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
(Mat 17:20 KJV) And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
(Mat 17:21 KJV) Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Your granddaughter may be able to simply tell this spirit to leave and pray that God would remove it, and it leaves. It also may take time and patience for the spirit to leave her alone, because those are the ones that come out by prayer and fasting.

Prayer is to do the will of God, in addition to making a request, and fasting is to break free from wickedness.

This study explains prayer:

(Isa 58:6 KJV) Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

This evil spirit has been sent to try your granddaughters faith and your faith.

(1Pe 1:7 KJV) That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

These scary situations do a great job of revealing our lack of faith so that we cry out and ask God for more faith.

(Mar 9:23 KJV) Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
(Mar 9:24 KJV) And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

So comfort your granddaughter by telling her that God is in control, and have her read the scriptures for herself that demonstrate that. If she will let you, pray with her that God would take this evil spirit away that he has sent, then encourage her to be patient and not fear until God removes it. The lessons that she learns with this evil spirit will serve her well with any trial she faces in the future. It’s really the same process no matter what we’re dealing with.

I hope this helps you.

Your Brother in Christ,

Thanks for posting this Mitch, and K for asking, My 21 yr old daughter tells me when she’s sleeping, she’ll be awakened during the night, but can’t move, and sees the dark images. Back when I was a nurse, I worked a lot of mental health, I could walk by a evil spirit, and sense it.

Mitch, thank you for reminding us that God it sovereign, posting His words
Psa_107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

.These scriptures come to mind .
Jud 1:22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:
Jud 1:23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

K_, I pray the Lord give us wisdom to use His words, that have been set before us this day. For His Glorious name sake. Christ Jesus.
Let us be still, and know He is GOD. : )
