Does God have elect in every Generation?

Hi ____,

Here is what backs up the fact that there have always been a remnant of God’s elect. It is Christ’s own words:

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell [death, the unseen, the grave] shall not prevail against it.

If ever there was a moment when there was not one single person on the earth then for that moment the gates of hades had prevailed against Christ’s church.

“The gates of hell” prevailed against Christ’s physical body, and they have prevailed against the physical bodies of all His disciples, and everyone who has died since Christ:

Act 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

But Christ said that would not happen to His church, and that is the very point in telling us about how Elijah felt:

Rom 11:4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.
Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Here is Strong’s definition for the Greek word translated ‘prestent’ in verse 5:

G3568
νῦν
nun
noon
A primary particle of present time; “now” (as adverb of date, a transition or emphasis); also as noun or adjective present or immediate: – henceforth, + hereafter, of late, soon, present, this (time). See also G3569, G3570.

So “now… is there a remnant”, and that is, was, and always will be true.

If we insist on seeing a paper trail from Christ to now then our faith in Christ’s words is weak. We know from personal experience that the Truth is and always has been “hated of all men”, and any good harlot would burn any writings by any men of God of the past if she could. There is no question that she has been given to “sit upon the waters” of “nations, languages, and peoples” of this world”, and that she brags about how many she murdered of those who opposed her.

It is a perfect parallel of Elijah’s time when Jezebel had murdered so many of God’s prophets of that day, and Elijah twice tells God that he thinks he is the only one alive who has not forsaken God’s covenant:

1Ki 19:10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

1Ki 19:14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

But in spirit of how things appeared, it was not so:

1Ki 18:13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD’S prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

1Ki 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

It was the scriptures James gave which backed up what he said, it is not visible history books and a line of popes leading back to Peter.

You ask:

Who was there before Ray Smith and Mike Vinson ? Does anybody know about 1 person in the last 2000 years who has the same mind we have right now ?

The answer again is:

Mat 16:18 …I will build my church; and the gates of hell [death, the unseen, the grave] shall not prevail against it.

The whole point in telling us about Elijah was to point out that Elijah felt just as you (and I have felt the same way), and if he had believed only what he could see, he would have considered the Lord to be lying to him.

But the Lord is not a liar, and these words, are, were, and always will be true:

Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Yes, there always have been a remnant, and they have always felt isolated and alone and the Lord has always had to encourage them and remind them that he does have a remnant and that the gates of hell will never prevail against His remnant church.

I am not an expert on grammar and I admit that. But I do try to get the sum of God’s word together on any subject, and in this particular case I think James had done a good of getting those verses together which teach that there is, was always will be a remnant in the Old and New Testament time periods, and that all that happened to Elijah “happened to [him] and it is written for our admonition” when we get to feeling that we are all alone in this world.

1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Let me know what you think, R____.
