Were there Other Children from Adam and Eve?

The scriptures do not explicitly state that there were other sons and daughters besides those that the scriptures list before Seth in Gen 5:4, but there others things that tend to make us think that. We need to be careful to now think above that which is written.

1Co 4:6 And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

Look at Genesis chapter 4:

Where did Cain get his wife from if no other children were born to Adam and Eve? No other children are listed at this point besides Cain and Able.

Gen 4:17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.

And where did Lamech get his wives?

Gen 4:19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

If we were not told about these daughters, did God not tell us about other sons as well? We really don’t know.

Gen 4:14 could lead you to believe that there were other sons of whom Cain was afraid, but the scriptures just do not make that clear. It could just have been in idol of the heart given to Cain to torment him. We just don’t know.

Gen 4:14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

In the scriptures God often chooses people out of a generation for a purpose paying no attention to the order in which they were born. Look at king David.. he was the youngest yet chosen to be king.

Here it is prophesied that Esau (the older) will serve Jacob (the younger).

Gen 25:23 And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.

Seth could have been the next son or not, we’re not really sure. Or maybe it was just his line that God chose to follow.

In Genesis 5 we are told that everyone after Cain bore sons and daughters, and clearly Adam and Eve before Seth bore sons and daughters.

I don’t want to go above what is written, so all I can say is that there were definitely other children than those which are listed due to the omission of some daughters. We know that Eve is the mother of all living, so any children on the earth came through her.

Gen 3:20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

Were there other sons before Seth besides Cain and Able? The scriptures do not say, so we should not concern ourselves with this question.

1 Timothy 1:4 Neither give heed to fables and ENDLESS genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.

Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

I hope this helps,

Mitch
