A poem about weakness as part of the process
of salvation

by Mitch Kuhn

The burdens of the weak must be borne
The strong must suffer their scorn

Cursed for righteousness we want to be
Not because we stumble and cannot see

Lord, as we tread out your grain
Your spirit within us let it not faint

We know that we are weak
So your power is perfected and we are made meek

As a lion we do roar
As doves in our heavens soar

Others may think the righteousness is mine
The truth is I abide in the vine

Weary these people make me
Oh, Lord please set them free

In the wilderness they do cry
“Why did you bring me here to die?”

Oh, Lord I’ve said the same
As I blasphemed your name

And now in your fields I do reap
As your word you make me keep

I hope the fruit does come soon
As I wait I’ll sing this tune

“Patience patience is my song
I know the wait will be long

One day I’ll get my reward
And joy will come from the Lord”
